The coaches wanted to make you aware of a cool opportunity that's coming up. We know some of you are already aware and have bought tickets, but some may not be aware that for the first time in decades, Theodore Wirth will be hosting a World Cup Race in March!!! The fastest skiers in the world will be racing on the same trails that we've been practicing on all winter! This is the biggest Nordic Skiing event to be held in the US since the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics and it's happening right in our own backyard! This is an awesome way to see racing at the pro-level, most of which usually takes place overseas. Some of your coaches will be in attendance too - either as spectators or volunteers so we'd love to see you come out! Buy your tickets now and get this event on your calendar. NOTE there is a price hike on January Jan 27. General Admission will allow great viewing - and it will be a super fun social event. Note that the main event takes place on Tuesday, March 17th, but most of the action will take place in the later afternoon or evening. If skipping school is not an option, you can always come down afterwards and still see plenty of awesome racing! Hey Gang, This is the last week of practice for JV (or non-Sections racers), as Conference is the last race in which the entire team will participate. Hi Team,
Here is the plan for next week – note that Thursday’s race is planned to be at Lake Elmo Park Reserve, but the SEC coaches are keeping tabs on the conditions, there may be updates if snow deteriorate. Stay tuned for updates. Monday: Warm-up and Weights @ MVHS, practice ends @ 5:30pm Tuesday: Skate Ski at Theodore Wirth. Warmup + 30 min no pole skating, downhill step-turn practice. Bus returns to MV @ 6:30pm Wednesday: Short run + core, Carboload and Waxing 5pm @ MVHS Thursday: Race Classic at Battle Creek (updated from LEPR). Snow conditions may cause changes to location/technique or potentially race day. Stay-tuned
Saturday: Captain-Lead 2 hour Distance Skate Ski at Elm Creek. Note that while many natural snow trails will have snow from the storm, its unlikely that they will be groomed. Elm Creek and other well-maintained areas have a better chance at grooming sooner. Team, Great job at Mesabi!
We are moving into the race-heavy portion of the season. Please continue to be vigilant about your health, nutrition, and sleep in order to keep yourself and the team healthy. The SEC group is holding out on our race date/location this week until we see how the natural snow holds up. Please stay tuned on racing on Wed or Thurs. Monday: Easy 25 min run and lifting, Waxing and carboload at 5pm in MV Cafeteria Tuesday: Classic Ski at Elm Creek. Bus Leaves MV at 3:45 and returns at 6:30pm Wednesday: Skate race at Battle Creek
Friday: Skate Ski at Elm Creek. Bus Leaves MV at 3:45 and returns at 6:30pm Saturday: Skate ski at Theodore Wirth on Classic Skis. Please Arrive by 9am and on skis by 9:15am. Practice ends at 11am. *Whichever day is not the race, we will be doing a 30 min run + lifting at MVHS. |
